All this week, the presenters are reflecting on the past year, remembering some of their shows’ highlights and playing special requests as they celebrate one year since the launch of Purbeck Coast 101.2 FM.
The station launched on Monday 12th August 2019 at 10 am with radio presenter, David Hollister being the first on air to kick off the programming.
Since then the radio station has gone from strength to strength, as it has attracted lots more people who’ve volunteered to present shows.
Steering everyone through from the beginning has been Purbeck Coast’s station manager, Michelle Langthorne. The former BBC reporter has ably taken on the huge role, tackling both the technical aspects and the scheduling of programme content. She said:
“Back in March, as the coronavirus crisis forced presenters to broadcast from home, the station could have ended up going off air but with so many people isolating at home, we all realised that we had to keep entertaining all those stuck at home.
“It took a while for some to get used to recording their shows at home and I had to convert my attic into a makeshift studio. It’s been challenging at times having to remotely opt in to the studio and the year has had its ups and downs but overall it’s been a real privilege working with such great people.
“I must really say a special thank you to those that have kept providing me with their programmes throughout lockdown – I could not have carried on for the last few months without them. Their hard work has made a huge difference. I don’t have any gongs to hand out unfortunately, but they all know who they are!
“A new chapter beckons and it isn’t that far away. It will be good to shape and build upon the foundations laid down in our first year. I, for one, am very excited!”
